Reader Reviews:

4/5 stars

It's not that bad really. (2/2 people found this helpful)

I have the priveledge of actually being taught by the great Graham Darby, and have found all the books he wrote both useful and insightful. I would recommend all prospective readers to ignore the comments of the review above. I will agree that the book maybe be lacking in certain details concerning 'Pobedonostsev', but this book was never intended for critical research. It is designed to give the reader an overview of the period as a whole, sparking their intrigue and compelling them to do further, more in depth reseasrch. In this objective it excels quite commendably.

Quite Possibly the worst History Book EVER! (9/17 people found this helpful)

I was told by my tutor to buy this book for my AS-Level history course, what a mistake that was. I am sitting here now trying to write an essay on various sources of information about the emancipation of the serfs, but can I find a shred of information in this book...NO. One of the key figures during Alexander II's reign 'Pobedonostsev' is barely even featured in the book. From a book like this you expect key features have their own section or at least a box at the top of the page highlighting key features in this period, but no, this book is totally useless, ignore you tutor if he/she tells you to get it. It's totally useless.

a superlative, comprehensive description and historical book (2/3 people found this helpful)

A fantastic book which throughly describes the events leading up to and including the Russian Revolution. Darby wonderfully describes the regime of communism. Ideal for historians and others interested in this subject.
