THE SEVENTH SCROLL by Wilber Smith (0/0 people found this helpful)

I have read all the Wilber Smith books. I did read the Seventh Scroll when it was first published but wanted to read it again. It was as thrilling the second time as the first - I was unable to put it down and stayed up until the early hours of the morning to finish it!

Fantastic triology! (0/0 people found this helpful)

This book is great and even better when read as the triology should be, as this deepens characters and thickens the plots! I had read all three books seperately and would greatly recommend doing so, as I read them again after receiving the 3 books in 1, and sadly parts had been left out - much to my dissapointment!

Disappointing abridged audio book version (0/0 people found this helpful)

I purchased the audio 3CD version of the Seventh Scroll for a blind friend of mine who loves the original River God. However, I was deeply disappointed in the quality of the abridgement in the audio book version. Having read the book myself (some time before, it must be said) and having thoroughly enjoyed both it and River God, there seemed little of the excitement of unravelling the ancient clues in the shortened version. It came across as a pretty pedestrian modern adventure story, with little characterisation and no obvious links between some of the bits of action, which are some strengths in the original book.

Awsome! (0/0 people found this helpful)

A masterpiece. The Egyptian series was brilliant (except perhaps his most recent novel in the series).

Seventh Heaven (0/0 people found this helpful)

Brilliant. Brilliant. Brilliant. Have I mentioned it's brilliant? I don't read a huge amount of fiction, but this was on my brother's bookshelf and never really appealed as I thought it might be a little too macho for my tastes, but I wanted an easy read and had exhausted my meagre supply of fiction, so I gave it a go. That was about 8 years ago and it's now my standard holiday reading material.

The descriptions are so vivid I really feel I'm in Ethiopia. I love the attention to detail. The story is wonderful, the plot intelligent and clever (alright, there are some lucky breaks along the way), the characters believable (can you imagine anyone (well, apart from John Blashford-Snell perhaps) that you would rather go to Ethiopia with than Nicholas?) and the drama and tension sublime.

I can't recommend it enough. I never tire of it and it will continue to be my holiday companion for years to come.
