The storyteller's daughter is a re-telling of the tale of Sharazard, the weaver of tales. It gives the account of how Sharazard came to tell stories each night to her husband the king, so that he would spare her life. In this wonderful narrative of the events that created the Arabian Nights, there is wonderful subltey and magic. An excellent book, it brought alive a tale long known, but never seen from this angle. I totally recommend this book - it is indeed a keeper.
