Reader Reviews:well researched but not a good guide (15/17 people found this helpful)although the guide is well researched, it is poorly layed out with little thought of linking the text with any map. this makes it hard to read and know where the authors are speaking of. it is really not a guide book but an historical account of the path, and you should not buy it if you are looking for a guide to accommadation. when you compared it with guides to other long distance paths this book is lacking and wanting in most areas. on the whole it is very surprising that this is the official West Highland Way guide book. An invaluable guide to planning and walking the WHW. (11/12 people found this helpful)This publication comes in two parts, a beautifully illustrated guide and a detailed route map, contained in a handy plastic wallet. The guide contains useful information on equipment, accommodation and useful contact addresses as well as detailed route details. The photographs are well chosen and certainly whet the appetite for the forthcoming adventure. The route description is accurate, although the path along Loch Lomond has been upgraded since this book was written (May 2000). The historical and anecdotal information make the journey more interesting, although nothing can truly compare to the beauty of the country that this path crosses. Whilst solo walkers or lightweight campers may not care to take the written guide the map is sufficiently detailed as to make it the only necessary navigational aid to take. It is a strip map but contains enough detail either side of the route to allow for side excursions. This is an excellent guide, as one would expect from the official guide and contains all the information one needs to plan and walk the West Highland Way. A good book with all the information that you will need. (6/8 people found this helpful)This is an excellent guide containing a separate map which shows the route of this amazing route. The guide itself gives useful information on how best to walk the West Highland Way and all the information that you need to truly enjoy the walk to its fullest. I would recommend this guide to anyone who decides to undertake this journey. An excellent read also if you just want to read about the area.
