Having not read any of the other books in the Darkover series, or indeed any other books by Marion Zimmer Bradley, I can not comment on The World Wreckers in relation to the other Darkover novels. It is also worth pointing out that I read the book some time ago.
The truest thing that I can say about this book is that it is unusual, indeed it is quite possibly the most curious book I have read. I think it is dark enough and contains a sufficient number of ideas to gain entry to the high church of science fiction writing. However the constant references to the bazaar sexual activities of the characters lowers the tone, the somewhat unpalatable ending being the best example of this. It may be argued however that this aspect of the book is essential to the story, and thus can be excused.
I can remember little about the skill with which the book was written, so I will not comment.
I liked this book, which is why I went to the trouble of reviewing it, and can recommend it to any one who likes dark science fiction or fantasy.
