Beautifully illustrated book! (2/2 people found this helpful)

This book is beautifully and colourfully illustrated and it is sure to capture your little one's attention. The song of course is catchy too and you will be singing it all day long.

Only problem was, my 2 year old nephew recently discovered what death meant (dead bird on the porch) and was rather traumatized by the repetition of "perhaps she'll die", thinking that perhaps he might swallow a fly and die. My niece's teacher has changed the words in class to perhaps she'll "cry".

If it weren't for the above problem, this book would be a definate 5 star, but if it's not a problem for your child, don't miss this book!

Disappointing (3/3 people found this helpful)

Found this to be a disappointing version & the one with the cd is a HUGE let down as it's sung sooooo quickly it's impossible to keep up with! Really wanted to use it with my class of 5 year olds.
No worries about the "death" issues - hey, if you eat a whole horse what do you expect?!

A Valued Classic (2/2 people found this helpful)

It's lovely to see the book and story just as I remember it from 30 years ago. The repetition is what makes it, especially for children. My 2 year old can't get enough!

I read it when I was little and I'm fine! (38/41 people found this helpful)

I have bought this for my two-year old daughter because I can remember this from when I was young as being one of my favourite books.

Why people are so concerned about the rhyme and death staggers me.

Is the world we live in now so policitically correct that our children shouldn't read humorous stories that talk about this.

Congratulations to those parents out there who have bought this book for their children, enjoy spending time reading it to/with them and tickling them whenever the spider appears.

We read it and I'm sure you, like me, haven't suffered because of it.

I honestly don't often write reviews/comments like this on products but Jeez, what is going on in the world?

Anyway, as I said, a great little book, I enjoyed it as a child and I can't wait to sit down with my little girl and enjoy it again with her.

Brought back happy memories of my father singing me this as a child and I now take great delight in singing along with my little boy.
