This Year It Will Be Different (0/0 people found this helpful)

Some people have berated this book because thay feel that it lacks the usual depth and well structured plot of a Maeve Binchy novel. I personally believe that such people are missing the point here. These series of short stories are delightful to read simply because they are more light-hearted and witty. Each has shrewd insights in to the human condition during this special time of year.

I defy anyone not to recognise either someone that they know or a situation that they have first hand experience of in one of these tales.

I enjoyed it for what it was and would heartily recommend it to others.

Exactly what I was looking for at less than half the new price, and in good condition, too.

Hurried, forgtetable (0/0 people found this helpful)

A collection of short stories all set in and around the christmas period. Mainly featuring women having a hard time of things and coping with the stresses of the festive season. Particular emphasis on adultery. With the exception of the mixed up christmas shopping stories none of the others are connected. I read 1 or two each evening. Because they are short stories, like you d find in a magazine, I found them hurried and was left wanting more. Many of the stories were very similar but none really stand out, by the time I got to the end I had forgotton what Id read.

Nice, but a bit depressing... (0/0 people found this helpful)

As always, Maeve Binchy has yet delievered a cozy novel. Yet, I find this reading a bit depressing and less heartwarm than some of her pervious publishings. I believed this Christmassy edition to be joyous, sadly it isn't...

A bit too easy to skip through. Very variable story quality and some of the characters are too lightweight and 2 dimensional to be compelling. If you have 5 mins with a cuppa then it will probably fit the bill but it won't exercise your grey matter or challenge you in any way.
