I have been visiting Goa for over ten years and Mumbai for three, and I can guarantee that you will not find a better travel guide to Mumbai than this one. It covers all of the essentials and so much more, and the scope is wider than eiher the Rough Guide or the Lonely Planet guide (it covers the suburbs and also somehow manages to capture the "feel" of the place, which none of the others do). It is accurate and informative and the maps are excellent, of great use in a city where an address doesn't really help very much. Although I had already visited Mumbai twice before, it was my constant companion for a full week in December 2006, when found it to be absolutely invaluable. It is far the best travel guide I have ever used and I cannot rate the Mumbai section highly enough. However,the Goa section was a huge disappointment - it feels very much like an afterthought, thrown together with little research simply to fill up the pages. Although it does cover the basics of the main tourist resorts this is done at such a high level as to render it almost useless as a guide. It excludes most of the best shops, restaurants and accommodation and is not even particularly accurate on those it does mention. A first-time visitor to Goa would never see what this beautiful state has to offer if they were to rely on this book. Buy it if you are visiting Mumbai, and I am confident that it will not let you down - but if you want a good guide to Goa go for either the Rough Guide or the Lonely Planet guide, but definitely not this one.
