TNIV Pocket Bible SEA

This Bible is a great size, nice n handy to carry around with you to church, work or on holiday. It also has a 'read your Bible in a year' plan which i shall be using. There is a helpful dictionary at the back too.
The writing is very small, but what do you expect in a compact Bible?!

Excellent bible to have with you on the move (15/16 people found this helpful)

I was looking for a good leather pocket Bible and I've certainly found one that I like!

The size would be small enough for a large jacket pocket, but would be bulky to carry around (it is 1170 pages after all!). As a bible to slip into your bag however, you can't go wrong with this one. The cover is a good soft leather with a hidden (not mechanical clasp) magnetic fastening for easy opening/closing. It's very flexible and comfortable to hold. The pages are silver edged and are of the usual small bible tissue-paper thickness but smooth, strong and with an easy, flexible binding. There's a small marker ribbon which has actually been "cauterised" at the end to stop it from fraying which is one up on a lot of books that I own that now have frayed marker ribbons!

As for the content, it's the Today's New International Version (TNIV) translation which is an update of the widely used and non-denominational New International Version. Updates are fairly minor for the most part such as translation of names (there's a mapping of NIV<->TNIV names in the back) but anyone following an NIV reading with a TNIV translation would have no problems. The books are separated into sections (The Gospels, The Books of Moses etc.), there's a Dictionary of biblical terms, people and objects that we're not familiar with today, a table of biblical to imperial and metric weights and measures and finally a "Through the Bible in a Year" plan that breaks up the entire Bible into 365 (4 Chapter/15 minute) chunks.

The only criticism I'd have is that the typeface is smaller than some pocket Bibles that I've seen. This makes it comfortable to read because of the spacing between the lines, but the trade off is the small size of the letters.

Unfortunately the photo that Amazon provide is of the box that it comes in which only shows part of the cover through the transparent film so I recommend going to the publisher's (Zondervan's) website and browsing through the TNIV->Personal Bibles to see an alternate image that shows the cover in full.

Overall, an excellent and superb value pocket Bible for people who can't find time to get their daily bread at home and want a modern looking, compact book for quiet time on the move. My ambition's to wear this one out!
