Go Belzoni! (0/0 people found this helpful)

This book is fantastic! I was wating for ages for it to be reprinted. It tells you all about Belzoni's travels in Egypt. He went there first, planning to invent a machine to help irrigate the fields, using hydraulics, but instead, he ended up unearthing Egypt's treausures. This is the diary of 'the' Giovanni Belzoni, from the BBC's Egypt series. It tells you all you saw in the documentary about him, and much more. There are also 16 pages of full colour illustrations on the inside. I would highly reccomend this hardback book, reprinted there, in 2007. Go on, you know you want to!

Excellent Book (4/4 people found this helpful)

I have been to Egypt, the first time was in 1993, and I made my mind up that I'd like to study Egyptology. I'm now in my third year of studying Egyptology, although it's not one of my study books I still wanted to read it.

I've been waiting for this book to be reprinted for over 12 months.

"Travels In Egypt and Nubia" by Giovanni Belzoni, it's written in his own words, Giovanni show's you the massive problems he had with the locals due to the French interfering. His writing includes humour, and is very descriptive.

It's not got any chapters, it's just written in three parts, (journey 1, 2, and 3), and the way he words everything he makes you feel like your standing right there next to him, like your one of his team.

I found it very compulsive and I'd recommend it to anyone. It's definitely a book I'll read again. :-)

Fantastic Romp through Antiquities (0/1 people found this helpful)

Belzoni's recollections of his adventures at the dawn of archeology, marvellously enhanced by the unevenness of his prose, are a wonderful romp through history.

If you have seen the Egypt series on DVD based on his life and recollections, then this book is the perfect companion.

Heartily recommend travel literature too, not just for going to Egypt.
