Reader Reviews:Superb ! (0/0 people found this helpful)An absolutely superb book ! Should be read by everyone with even the least interest in alternative medicine.
Solid. (0/0 people found this helpful)Most people who buys books like this, are, like me, sceptical about alternative/complementary medicine. What you do get in this book, is even more solid evidence in favour of such sceptisism. To doubt the message of this book, you'll have to resort to the kind of thinking found among conspiracy theory-fans, and simply start denying reality.
A Warning (2/3 people found this helpful)A serious well documented review of how alternative medicine can lead us astray in our anxiety for relief of symptons.Explains and exonerates the placebo effect. A very important book. (3/4 people found this helpful)Simon Singh and Edzard Ernst are a formidable team and apply incredible rigour to the plethora of alternative medication available to the public. They analyse in detail acupuncture, homeopathy, chiropractic therapy and herbal medicine and their conclusions are not pleasant for those in the alternative medicine community. They make several important points about the nature of alternative medicine and why it is so popular even though the science behind them can be deconstructed by schoolchildren. I found the book useful, interesting and erudite. Highly reccommended. Great book, interesting statistics and very well researched (3/4 people found this helpful)I bought this book after listening to both of the authors for an hour or so at the Hay-on-Wye literature festival a couple of years ago. They both were very well versed and they admitted that some of the treatments did show some benefits. I really like this book as it approaches the various treatments logically. It gets the 'healers' and 'syndrome' unspecific community in a real tizz. After all its their multi million pound industy that is at stake here. I think the book is a little one sided however it does given credit where it is due, scientifically due that is. I understand that if all the world were scientists then it would be a real nightmare, however if all the world were 'healers' then we'd all be broke.
