Good read (1/2 people found this helpful)

I have read this book and have found it quite interesting. The authors give extensive explanation of different theories which try to explain the shroud as a supernatural phenomenom and why they are not scientifically possible. However they also describe an objective and credible (nothing supernatural) process which replicates the shroud's image. I recommend it to those who are not afraid of learning that the shroud is a fake.

Recent studies nullify carbon dating. (3/5 people found this helpful)

This book takes no account of recent studies which disprove the carbon dating findings; namely that the area of shroud, carbon dated was contaminated. Secondly, the shroud is a negative image. Photography is only 200 years old! Recent Scientific findings date the Shroud to be about 2000 years old. The positioning of the nails on the wrists on the Shroud is not conducive to the medieval assumption that Jesus was crucified through the hands. Recent findings show that a hand would not withstand the force exerted upon it and as such would tear under the strain. This book points to a forger with knowledge of photography and roman crucifixion technique! Next they will be telling us they knew how to work adobe Photoshop 8 in the 14th century! Don't waste your money.

Am an avid shroud fan, but..... (7/10 people found this helpful)

....before I read this book I am confused. After skimming through the book at my local Smith's, I was unsurprised to see the (now universal) belief that the shroud is a relatively recent (1000 - 1500) invention. The book supports this with evidence of the carbon dating results.
What I did find surprising however is the authors assumption that it was created by Leonardo Di Vinci (b1452). this would place the shrouds completion at the extreme end of the carbon dating estimate. It also completely disregards all known references to the Shroud prior to 1452. I couldnt (in my brief reading of the book) find any reference or explanation for the numerous and varied references to the shroud prior to 1452. If anyone is interested in these references try reading The Divine Deception, which despite its outragous and often far-fetched claims has alot of factual cross references and a great appendix.
As a result of my previous reading I dont think I will buy this book, as entertaining as it may appear.
