A must get! (0/0 people found this helpful)

i've always wanted to learn turkish to help me when i go abroad and to speak with friends of mine whom are turkish. But with soo many books and cd's on the market, it was difficult making a decison on which book to choose. But after reading this book, i am soo much more confident with using turkish and the knowledge i've gained has been invaluable.

Great for Beginners. (2/3 people found this helpful)

This CD is very good in the beginning, for those who have just started learning Turkish and will help you learn all the basics, for example, hello, and how are you. However...I would really reccommend buying this CD without the paper back book that comes with it, as it can sometimes be hard how to know how to say a word without the spelling. After this, i would reccommend buying the PDQ linguaphone course.

The best Turkish course on the market (40/40 people found this helpful)

I've been learning Turkish for six years now, and am reasonably fluent. In that time I've encountered many language courses and Teach Yourself Turkish is the best I've come across. It's also one of the best in the Teach Yourself series.

It provides a good grounding in the basic structure of the language and key vocab in the first 8 chapters. It explains things clearly without getting lost in complex grammatical terms. With a bit of determination you could probably get through this section in 6-8 weeks by yourself in a little spare time. Combine this with a few stock tourist phrases from a guidebook and Turkey is your oyster.

Where it does lose it's way a little bit is in the second half of the course, where it tries to cover a little too much material for the space it has. Because of this the explanation can get muddier, and the subject matter is presented a little bit too densely for easy self study.

While my Turkish is now well beyond the level of this course, it was an important part in helping me get to this level.

The best way to learn a fascinating language (36/37 people found this helpful)

I've tried several books to help me learn Turkish and this is the best. The authors strike just the right balance between grammatical explanations that help you understand what's really going on, and genuinely useful dialogues and vocabulary. They make the whole process great fun. I've been plugging away at this book for a few months now, am off to Turkey soon and, along with the Rough Guide dictionary/phrasebook which I will take with me, feel well prepared. Minor gripes: the glossary at the end includes far from all of the words in the texts, proofreading is a bit erratic, and the exercise answers at the back are hard to match up because they're listed under chapter numbers while the exercises themselves only have the chapter names at the top of the page. But don't let that put you off - this book is great.

Brilliant introduction to Turkish (19/21 people found this helpful)

Being a lover of all things Turkish i felt it was time to stop expecting the Turk's to talk to me 24/7 in English so i bought Teach Yourself Turkish, the cassete and book pack.
The book alone can teach you enough to get by but with the tape accompanying it, it makes the whole process easier and even more fun!
The authors give good pointers on how to go about this 'Teach Yourself' course and beleieve me its working!
So if i can do then so can you!
Definatly recommend using this as your first and possibly only means of beginner Turkish.
