Reader Reviews:Passionate though not 100% accurate (1/1 people found this helpful)The author has a real passion for Ukraine and his rich descriptions will excite you about the country's history, people and sights.. The problem was that my brief visit, a few days in Odessa, didn't at all live up to expectations. The hotel that was glowingly described in the guide was very mediocre and lacked the facilities described - it was clear the author had been told a specification, and he hadn't bothered to check it out himself. So I defintely felt it was somewhat flawed in painting too a rosy picture. But on the other hand I'd still prefer this any day over the dry and practical travel formula you'll find in equivalent Rough and LP guides. Verbose guide to Ukraine (4/5 people found this helpful)The tone of this book is set by the table of contents being buried behind pages of glossy images and other bumph - practicality for the traveller supplanted by the inflated page count achieved with over 100 pages of historical background and generalisation, and verbose descriptions of towns and tourist attractions.
