Reader Reviews:Top chess writer presents the Closed Sicilian (0/0 people found this helpful)Gary lane is one of my favourite chess writers. Obviously you can't choose what author to buy a book from a particular opening system from as there are usually just one or two good books on the market for any system or variation. So it's just luck for me that my favoured weapon against the sicilian is the Closed Sicilian. The first book I read of Gary Lane's was his recent work on the Ruy Lopez, and I was very impressed by that work. I am not disappointed with "The Ultimate Closed Sicilian". The same concise and clear annotations of variations in all the lines of the system are given, and as with the Ruy Lopez book, the book is planned out in a very logical way.
Do you want to Beat the Sicilian? (21/21 people found this helpful)I have been playing the Closed Sicilian for White for more years than I care to remember. In this book Gary Lane has managed to introduce me to new ideas and interesting attacking games that are an inspiration. I had read his previous book on the subject 'Winning with the Closed Sicilian' and was a little concerned this might be a cut and paste job. This is absolutely not the case and the result is a completely new book that I would recommend to anyone. There are games by leading chess stars Michael Adams and Nigel Short, while the new world champion Ponomariov is seen playing Black in a heavily annotated game struggling to cope with White's opening.
