The book has a lot of useful advices and information. But it's also a very good read into history of the region. Highly recommend for both: reading and using during your trip.

I took this book on a trip to Uzbekistan, and found it excellent. Other members of my party kept borrowing it as it provided far more information about history and contemporary culture than other guide books, all in a very easy to use format. It is also a good read even for those not travelling.

This guide was very helpful in gaining background on Uzbekistan's cultural heritage and proved an unmissable companion on the road. As a testimony to its worth, some local guides we met in Uzbekistan praised its style and detailedness. It is less practically oriented than its Lonely Planet competitor (on Central Asia) but probably has less errors and is more enjoyable to read. A minus are the city maps which do not always correspond to the (admittedly chaotic) reality.
