Roger Shufflebottom does know his stuff, Avid certified trainer, he has been training lots of editors, at bbc and elsewhere...think it is time for him to update the book...the criticism that he tries too hard, may just be his wish to cover everything...everyone learns differently, some quicker than others.
I just checked back to see if he had indeed updated, because Avid has changed a fair bit since 2001, would be handy.

The author clearly knows his stuff, but in covering every permutation of Avid and every software version in every paragraph, he's made this book really tough to read. Useful to clarify particular issues, but not a particularly helpful training book.

Avid produce one of the most popular video editing software/hardware systems on the market, and this book perfectly describes how to use various versions of Avid software for those wishing to learn or improve basic (and essential) skills. Roger Shufflebottom has successfully managed to cut through all the jargon and offer a clear and easy to understand route to basic editing on an Avid. A Book that deserves to be on any Avid editor's book shelf.
