I bought this to help me "upgrade" to VB 2005.
It's not very good. Half the entries in the index don't exist, but contain the letters BC in front of them. Alas, there's is no explanation as to what this means. The immediate window might be a useful tool - it certainly was in previous versions, but there's only one clue as to how it is accessed and I am told I need to View/Windows/Other Windows and choose Immediate window. Only problem is that there is no option under Other Windows named immediate. I've tried the others, but they're not the immediate window.
For a book that is meant to take the mystery out of VBE2005, it doesn't. I'm left as clueless about how to get anything done in VBE2005 as I was before buying this book.
I have always rated Dummies booked highly - but this one is a duffer.

The selling point for this book was the chapter on databases.
I wanted to write a simple data viewer for a computer that didn't have a full database installed.
In the other texts I perused before buying, this topic was handled with overwhelming details.
I was able to understand the methods described in the For Dummies book first time. They were exactly what I wanted for the situation and they sold it to me.
The book is lucid, simple. The author hates overcomplication - and the help and error messages of VB.NET. I didn't like the over-criticism of Microsoft and object-oriented programming. The author made valid points early on, but repeated them a little too much.
This book will give you a very rapid introduction to VB.NET Express programming, but don't expect it will be the only text you ever need.
