Reader Reviews:Good introduction to French for adults (3/3 people found this helpful)This is a well-structured introduction to French for adults and provides lots of vocabulary that other such books tend to omit, such as the process of buying a property in France. In the process the grammar is also well covered and compiled in a section at the end of each unit. My one criticism is that some of the material used (examples of ads, for instance) contain difficult vocabulary which is not covered in the main text. Quoi de mieux! (4/4 people found this helpful)I have been using this book since it was published the first time and I must admit it's always been of great help. Compared to the BBC publications, Voila is simple to use, easy to follow, modern, colourful and has sufficient grammar explanation. It brings a real French flavour to the students'learning and with my knowledge of France (being French) I find this book perfect. Just one drawback though... it has not been revised to change the French Francs into Euros. Let me remind the buyer that he/she is a French teacher it is of course up to them to motivate the students, use additional material and deliver accordingly to their audience. This book is definately a book for FE/HE/adult ed. audience. I have also decided to use it this year towards the LCCI qualification in FLAW (Foreigh Language at Work). Bravo Mme Gonthier et M. Geoghegan! still Francs (0/4 people found this helpful)I am disappointed: the book has a very modern look and pictures but it still uses Francs instead of Euros. very useful for beginners.. (3/4 people found this helpful)I am using this book as part of french course and it is really useful and easy to go through.. Very Poor (9/15 people found this helpful)This was a set book for Adult education in our local collage. The book assumes that the reader has a good knowledge of French although it is for beginners. The text appears to be written by someone who cannot remember what they wrote in the last paragraph. The text jumps from place to place, adjectives and nouns crop up with no explanation, verbs are partially used but not completed. For example numbers 1-60 are on page 30, 61-100 are on page 48 but you have to give your age on page 39. Being poilital correct by the time it has told you how to say you are un-employed and how to play the lottery, but not to ask "where is the toilet". The book is puffed out with lots of pictures, a lot with no relevance. The tape generally gabbles, it may be French but it is difficult to hear each word. If this is the standard of school books, no wonder kids finish with no education. Similar ProductsVoila: A Course in French for Adult Beginners Voici! Voici!
