Reader Reviews:Balanced and informative (1/2 people found this helpful)This is a sober, concise and informative little book that achieves the right balance in its treatment of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia's first post-Milosevic president. Tracing Kostunica's political evolution before he became president, Cigar avoids the extremes of either praising or demonising him. The book proves that Kostunica is not a progressive or moderniser but rather an unreconstructed nationalist; on the other hand, it does not equate him with Milosevic but presents him as a legalist who, once in power, rejected war or violence as the means to achieve his ends. Essential reading for those wishing to understand Serbia's gradual transition to democracy.
