"Set of Books"? (0/0 people found this helpful)

I was under the impression that these books come as a set - 2 books - We Learn Polish 1 and 2.
I only received We Learn Polish 2.
The seller should specify exactly what book is being sold- I wouldnt have purchased the 2nd edition book before the first if I had known.

I liked it too! (0/0 people found this helpful)

I found these books really helpful. The approach is systematic and the texts and exercises are methodical allowing for continuous revision of material learnt in previous units. Also the subjects are relatively interesting and useful.

There is a strong focus on grammar and I found some of the termonology hard to get my head around at first, but once I did I found them very easy to use.

BUY IT - I Liked it (4/4 people found this helpful)

I have to disagree with the other review. I bought this set of books before I moved to Poland. It gave me alot of the basics before I went and it never left my side when I was there. It is a beginners course and gives you all the basic stuff like how to go shopping, buy things, ask for directions, names all the body parts, basically all the stuff you would expext from a starter course. It consists of 2 books and by the sounds of it the other reviewer only read one. The smaller book is texts to practice (this is the one with all the pictures) and it gives you most of the vocab. The other bigger book is all the grammer and practice exercises. I thought it was a great way to start learing Polish.

Rubbish! (2/7 people found this helpful)

First thing to say is: DON'T BUY THIS BOOK!!!!

That is, unless you WANT to be extremely frustrated and not learn much of the language! I mean, it's ok for vocab (unless a meaning is missing - which happens quite a lot!), but that's really all it's good for!

It's basically a book filled with text and the meanings of the words at the end of the text. NO grammar, NO basic phrases, NO verbs, NOTHING! I suppose if you already know some polish basics and want to refresh your vocab then it's ok, but even then its just so antiquated!!! The drawings and photos are all of an idealistic, socialist style that gets so irritating, especially when you read the text of a similar nature. It's really no good if you want to learn to speak to young people, because apparently the text is really only useful if speaking to someone's grandmother!!!!

To conclude: DON'T BOTHER!!!!!!
