Reader Reviews:Let down by a lack of maps (4/5 people found this helpful)The book is split into two sections, the first gives a brief history of Wellingtons military career and the second looks at his generalship in specific areas such as: artillery, offensive operations, defensive operations and cavalry. I thought that this produced an unhappy compromise. The history of his military career was too brief, and a lack of maps made an appreciation of his tactical and strategic decisions all but impossible. The later sections on particular aspects of his generalship were more satisfactory, but again a general lack of maps rendered much of the text meaningless. I would only recommend this book to someone with a good initial knowledge of Wellington's career and the history of the period.
