Reader Reviews:Makes getting dressed fun! (1/2 people found this helpful)If you find getting dressed (and styled) a drag, you need this book. Trinny and Susannah show how to create complete looks, which is something other similar books fail to do. Each "type" is described as a character, in order to show the mood that might accompany the look. You then get a mood-board with pictures to illustrate the feel of the look. Each look is then described in words and pictures as Trinny and Susannah give you the essential clothes, cuts, colours and other details. The icing on the cake is a guide on how to do the hair and makeup which goes with the clothes.
Toe-curling rubbish (13/14 people found this helpful)This book is quite simply awful. Trinny and Susannah are scraping the barrel with this book and have obviously run out of ideas. They look terrible in a selection of joke shop wigs and ill fitting clothes and have no real understanding of what the icons they have chosen looked like. Terribly researched stocking filler rushed out for the Christmas market - avoid! Don't waste your money!! (7/11 people found this helpful)I have bought every book Trinny & Susannah have written and was excited to see this new book was out. However on a look through it, I was very disapointed and felt they had finally run out of ideas. It will not be on my Xmas list!! Interesting, but not sure of its utility (16/16 people found this helpful)This book deconstructs various styles that are hallmarks of style icons such as Grace Kelly, Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn etc. It encourages people to adopt a different style depending on their mood. While the deconstruction of the styles is interesting and well thought out, my problem with it is that to me style is not really about mood - it is about personality. Your style should reflect the person you are rather than looking like a cheap imitation of someone else. So, if someone's natural style is "gamine" nothing prevents them from dressing say "avant-garde eccentric" or "cutting edge cool", but the problem is they may also look like they are playing a part in a play rather than being themselves. This can be seen in the different "costumes" Trinny and Susannah have worn for this book. I call them "costumes" because in these clothes their own natural style (which is excellent) has been swamped and they look instead like fake Marilyn Monroe's and fake Grace Kelly's (and, I infinitely prefer the original Princess Grace and Marilyn Monroe). The book might be more helpful for those who are still trying to find their natural style. Be Inspired (6/7 people found this helpful)This book is classic Trinny and Susannah. It is fun, irreverent and full of great ideas. It will give you the confidence to explore your wardrobe and get the most out of it. Just like you eat everyday and expect something tasty on your plate, you get dressed everyday and should really enjoy the experience. This book will certainly help you with that. It also makes a great present, be it for your teenage daughter or your mother-in-law!
