Willkommen (1/1 people found this helpful)

A well laid out book but too many errors for my liking and not all often used words are translated so we have to use a dictionary along side, just a little annoying at times. Most in our class have bought with CD but tape would be better to keep re-winding and listening again. Our tutor has the tape which is helpful. Not much good without the tape or CD

So far, so patchy (4/7 people found this helpful)

Well laid out and presented. I'm only up to lesson three and two errors found already. I hate that in a language book. You must be able to trust the text otherwise at best you waste time, and at worst learn incorrect language. It's looking patchy so far and some oversights are made introducing terms (e.g. Beispiel (example) is not included in its list of Translation Activities expressions, but is used extensively). As with many language courses they make the mistake of being jokey which becomes very wearing after one or two reads, and becomes downright irritating when you are revising the material. (It's even worse on the CD).

I like my language courses to be slightly dryer and accurate. I've just attempted a crossword puzzle that can't fit, and I'm not hopeful for the remainder of the book.

Truly Awful (4/10 people found this helpful)

This is a truly awful book. It's virtually impossible to find any grammar information as it doesn't have an index.
It doesn't deserve any stars.

Easy to use, concise, good value and fun (40/41 people found this helpful)

Those of us that are old enough to remember the Lafayette family from French lessons at school will immediately feel comfortable with this books approach. Well laid out, colourful and concise - just what you want when you are on your first steps to learning another language. the book goes into enough detail where necessary without bogging down your brain with confusion. The use of informal and formal words can help the reader plan what they need to say to any particular person. Very useful tool to gain an understanding of German and would be an excellent read to gain a grounding for any personal or even business trip to Germany. I consider it to be money well spent,
