Funny! But I've read better Pratchett (0/0 people found this helpful)

It's funny, of course it is! It isn't a Pratchett if it's nto funny... but I just feel it was alittle... hmmm.... messy? Trying too hard? Oh I dont know... it just felt alittle off, compared to other books. But by all means.. I love the Witches and Nanny Ogg is seriously growing on me :)

I also like the great play on Macbeth and even good old fairytales like Sleeping Beauty. Hysterically mastered I must say...
I am so looking forward the next in line, "Witches Abroad"... should be just as fun, if not more...

Discworld does Macbeth (0/0 people found this helpful)

`Wyrd Sisters' is the sixth Discworld book and the second to star the brilliant Granny Weatherwax. It is at about this point in the Discworld series where the books start to become consistently brilliant. The story is something of a parody of Macbeth, is entertaining throughout and is brilliantly funny.

As well as the return of the Granny Weatherwax, this book also sees the introduction of the other great witch characters Magrat and Nanny Ogg. Nanny Ogg in particular is an awesome character, acting as a brilliant counterpart to the more serious Granny Weatherwax. The book is just as well written as you would expect from a Terry Pratchett book and out of all the Witches Discworld books, this is one of my favourites.

Wyrd Sisters (0/0 people found this helpful)

I bought this as a gift. It is one of the early Discworld novels that feature Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg up in the Ramtop Mountains a long way from the dubiously civilised streets of Ankh-Morpork. Granny Weatherwax is one of my favourite characters in the Discworld series (so far).

Amazon decided I could not have it ! (0/4 people found this helpful)

I have no intention to use Amazon again, having been so disappointed that my order was cancelled at such short notice having been told that it was dispatched. I will be returning to CD Wow. !!

I laughed so much, I actually hurt myself........ (0/0 people found this helpful)

this is the kind of reaction I get whenever I read any Terry Pratchett book especially the ones featuring Nanny Ogg, Granny Weatherwax and Magrat Garlick. I also have to admit that being a Witch myself, I can see a lot of me in all three of his Witches.......maybe not the warts etc., but certainly their feelings on things. I particularly like Granny's 'headology'.

If you have read Shakespeare then you will notice certain strange references to the Scottish play although when Granny was taken to see a play she couldn't quite grasp exactly what was going on and consequently caused total chaos.

The plot revolves around a murder, fairly common in the small kingdom of Lancre and a royal infant. Now, Witches aren't supposed to meddle but in this case they have to with rather strange consequences.

To say anymore would be a huge spoiler so all I will say is, buy this if you don't mind looking totally insane by reading it in a public place.........you will laught out loud until your stomach muscles ache.

One more thing, Magrat gets a love interest but doesn't quite know what to do with it.....Nanny Ogg who was rather 'free' when she was young, still hasn't worked out how to tactfully tell Magrat the facts of life........
