US & Israeli propoganda (4/5 people found this helpful)

I commend the author for bringing up this issue, it seems we have one rule for the rest of the world & one rule for Israel: that is, no one dares to critise the injustices, ethnic cleansing, toture, humiliation & racism that is commited in the name of a terrorist state called ISRAEL!.

I borrowed this from the library.... (3/4 people found this helpful)

An excellent overview of history and a very compelling read. Don't be put off by those who suggest this book is biased simply because it confronts the facts head on. It does so from a genuine concern in the plight of the Middle East, of the Jewish 'soul', and humanity in general.

About Alan Hart (1/17 people found this helpful)

I was considering buying Mr Hart's books as he seemed to have interesting inside knowledge to impart.

I visited his blog and noticed a post from when BBC reporter Alan Johnston was kidnapped. Hart suggested that Israelis / Zionists might be behind it.

Given the news at the time, that seemed highly improbable. I thought that when Johnston was released, Hart might issue a retraction, or even say nothing. Instead he chose to say he had not changed his mind.

One can always point a finger of suspicion. I suppose it is possible Israel had a hand in Johnston's kidnapping but it could also be the Vatican or Russians. Given the facts of Johnston's release and the public relations coup reaped by Hamas, Israel is probably the last place to look, even if you do not want to accept the obvious.

Hart thus seeks to blame "Zionists" for anything he can. I am not going to waste time and money on books by someone with such a warped way of looking at things; I don't believe that's a prescription for truth. (It's a little difficult to determine exactly who these Zionists are that he so detests. E.g. he claims to have been a friend of Golda Meir; was she not a Zionist?)

If you like conspiracy theories, maybe his books are for you.

"You can't blame him for looking out for his own interests" (7/24 people found this helpful)

I'm a 23-year-old Israeli, an atheist Jew, originally from Russia and the grandson of Holocaust survivors. Perhpas that makes me biased, but it would appear to me that the author of this book and honored BBC reporter, Alan Hart is simply terrified by the fallout of this culture-clash between west and mideast with Israel at its core. A fallout in the form of numerous terror attacks and civil unrest among muslims the world over that would purportedly come to a neat end once the Palestinians and Israelis make up. I share in his fears but perhaps just this time will people stop blaming the Jews for all the problems : )
Mr Hart doesn't pass for a person sincerely interested in the fate and right to self-determination of the Jewish people, yet his jeremiad should not be taken lightly. The author presents a compelling case for a quick resolution before all hell breaks loose, though his proposed course of action is very doubtfully anything of a solution.

His rationale seems to exist in quantum state jumping from laudable and utterly impeccable to ridiculous ideas such as "One state for all or catastrophe for all." I figured he had no idea what he was talking about. The kafkesque notion of bringing together two such disparate peoples with a long running history of hard feelings under one state cannot lead to anything good.

He also says that Israel was never in danger of extinction and that our Jewish leaders in Israel and America fooled us into believing it in order to unite us. What he DOESN'T seem to realize is that the looming danger of annihilation only serves to strengthen the peace camp in Israel and among Jews abroad.

Perhaps what I'm about to say is undeservedly scathing of the respectable author of this book, but had there been 18 million arabs and 1000 million Jews, Mr. Hart would be content not to publish his just work and would go about relishing on the finer things in life not endangered in this fictitious scenario.

On a different note, had I been a Palestinian, I'd also inveigh against an occupying force, but I'd do so humanely and looking history square in the face and not deluding myself as to the causes of this occupation. I'd opt for non-violent resistence and I know that I'd be able to count on the sympathy and help of innumerable Jews in Israel and abroad.

Peace. Shalom. Salam.

Zionism begone! (13/19 people found this helpful)

This isn't a five star book. It isn't a one star book either. I'm voting it this high because of the rabid zionists that have voted it so low. These people support illegal occupation, house demolitions, torture, genocide, and much more. This book exposes their lies and hatred, which is why they rated it as they did. The fact that they're so disturbed by it is all the more reason to buy this and learn from it.
